Lucia Munuera
My passion burns for creating new raku objects. While building a piece it is as if the clay were speaking to me and leading me towards the goal. I then follow those thoughts intuitively.
My path
From clay to object
I discovered my love of clay in the early 1990s. From the very beginning I was fascinated by the Japanese firing technique of raku, in which the pieces are lifted glowing from the kiln with iron tongs at around 1000 degrees. That fascination went so deep that I came to specialise in this technique.
More recently I have also been making pieces finished with conventional glazes.
All my work is hand-built. I love touching the clay, shaping it and letting objects emerge from feeling and intuition. Above all I make clear, reduced forms, so that the strength and beauty of the pieces can unfold quietly together with the glazes and oxides. What comes out of it are singular, one-of-a-kind pieces.
